GRADUATION SHOW ..!!

Please be warned, this will be a quite a long post, but it was a very significant day and I hope you will enjoy reading about it.
Wow!! Where do I start from! Well on 28th May 2012 was our senior’s graduation day, where they presented a collection of 12 garments designed by them self. It was really wonderful to see all their hard work and love behind the making of their wonderful collection.
I had my first taste of real fashion show work experience. And it’s the first time ever I am displaying my work too.
The Fashion show held at Sea Princess Hotel, Juhu, Mumbai which was just the most beautiful setting for the show, especially when all the lighting had been set up. I have lots of pictures to show you which I will be uploading. The amount of people involved; Celebrities, design students, lighting, media, photographers, video, teachers, security, models and list goes on….
Each student in the college was assigned with some or the other work and apparently my work was to write as I m anyway, my friends were working backstage. And they had to match the models clothes, had to find garments and organize theme in order of the model and order of them being shown, well all the models were, so tall and thin.
Everything was just so incredible. The Fashion show started with our first years followed by the part-time students and then by the second years and last by our senior most graduated student. Everything was overwhelmed and looked stunningly awesome. First year’s collection was inspired by Rajasthan, India. It was about the visit of beautiful palaces, desert, balconies and the exotic mirrors which served the inspiration to the students and inspired them to create a whole collection on the theme. Second year’s collection was on a serene trip to Pondicherry were they had a chance to visit Auroville. Auroville is a mini establishment on the outskirts of Pondicherry that inhabits a minimal number of people who believe and understand the value of pure living. So, Auroville is a mini enterprise that deals with organic dying of organic cotton using natural dyes and hence, their collection was inspired by the use of organic cotton with elements of different cultures and civilization of the world.  Third year’s students had different themes for their collection where Vatika Gupta’s collection was inspired by OTHELLO , Devaki Advani’s collection inspired by Smokes ‘n’  Melts,  Amanjot’s collection inspired by A Free Independent Women and Devang Lal’s collection inspired by the boom of Colour Blocking.
It was such an honor to have my dress included in the show, all the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year work was shown was such a fun to see. To actually have my final dress on the catwalk, it was the best way to end the year, all my hard work had paid off. With winning the ‘MOST PROMISING STUDENT‘ award for year 2011- 2012  I’m really proud of that day. It just really proved that fashion is where I belong. I was born for the fashion world.

Audrey Hepburn : My Fashion Icon

My second fashion icon is Audrey Hepburn. A fashion icon without the list is incomplete. She is the chicest of the chic. In my humble opinion Audrey Hepburn is the loveliest, most elegant women of her times to be seen on silver screen. Always prim and proper with her well tailored clothes. She made the little black dress popular. I love her in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. She has everything that an average woman would love to have.
Her style was clean, minimal line and elegant. She would take simple silhouettes and make them stunning. She was not only a brilliant actress, but also a true lady. She exemplified the idea of being lovely inside and out; she is something I can appreciate today. Her style still lives on in women all over the world. The world of simplicity and elegance as we know is still lingering on in many fashion designers’ inspiration.

Nothing like Sixties !!

Hello there, In today’s post I m gonna talk about the 1960′s fun and flares.
The 1960′s term also refers to an era more often called the sixties. This was the era which was irresponsible excess and flamboyance and the decade was labeled as the Swinging Sixties because  of the fall or relaxation of some social taboos especially relating to sexism and racism that occurred during this time. For the first time ever in any fashion era, the young became the leaders of fashion.
Ever imagined how did we survived this era ?
It was fun for me while I was doing my research work about 60′s to understand the air during that era.
I can say is First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested from diabetes.  Full employment and a school leaving age of 15 teenagers had plenty of money to spend. They spend it on music, clothes , scooters or motorbikes but never had any helmets , not to mention, the risks they took hitchhiking. They were often married by their early twenties so this period of freedom was short.
                             About the Fashion in 60′s
I should say earlier 60′s didn’t  begin with colorful clothes. Most of the clothes in the beginning were dull and looked better on old people. But not to far into the 60′s, boutiques began opening up which sold must cheap colorful clothing to the youth and then Fashion created a youth desire, independence and a valuable form of self expression.
So What was it about the fashion in the 60′s ?
Why was it so important ? and What role did it play in Fashion ?
It was women who wore suits with boxy jackets and over sized buttons, simple geometric dresses known as shift dress were also in style, full skirted gowns that had close fitting waists ,  Stiletto-heeled shoes and oh I forget the mini skirt by Mary Quant.
